Postdoctoral Research Associate - Medical Device Wound Healing

About the Role
A postdoctoral position in medical device development is available at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. This role involves the design, prototyping, and validation of novel wound healing technology sponsored by the Defense Health Agency through the US Combat Casualty Care Research Program, in collaboration with investigators at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on productivity, performance, and funding availability.
Responsibilities
- Engineering design, construction, and testing of prototype devices for skin wound healing applications, including building testbeds and collecting performance data.
- Deployment of prototype devices at pre-clinical sites, including training personnel and providing engineering support as required.
- Maintaining engineering documentation by creating, organizing, updating, and preserving technical records.
- Supporting the writing and preparation of project reports and dissemination materials, such as conference abstracts, posters, and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
Requirements
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of experience (including MS and PhD research) in design and prototyping of devices.
Skills
Demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas is required:
- Control systems
- Mechanical design
- Electromechanical system fabrication
- Rapid prototyping
- Miniature sensors development
- Electronic circuit design
- CAD design
- Programming in LabVIEW and LabVIEW Real-Time (software and hardware)
Additional Considerations
- Ability to work independently with limited direction, as well as within a team environment.
Working Conditions
This position requires travel to the Massachusetts General Hospital main campus.
Pay
This position is in Grade PD with a formal salary range of $50,000–$76,000. The anticipated starting salary is $62,232 based on grant funding.
