About the role
The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology & Oncology, at the University of Virginia seeks multiple postdoctoral research associates to join the research team within the Chalfant laboratory. The start date of this position is as soon as possible. The position will be under the supervision of Dr. Charles E. Chalfant.
Responsibilities
- Foster innovative ideas and interests in one of the following areas: RNA splicing, lipid signaling, wound healing, infectious disease, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease.
- Develop molecular skills and assays such as high-throughput assays for drug discovery, secondary screening assays, cell models, and/or novel Genetically Engineered Mouse Models (GEMMs).
- Contribute to expanding research ideas in the aforementioned research areas.
- Write grants and construct/present research papers to develop an independent role over the next 3 to 5 years.
Requirements
- PhD and/or MD (or equivalent) degree in hand by start date.
- Substantial knowledge and skills in molecular biology, lipid signaling, lipidomics, or RNA splicing.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to work independently and cross-culturally in diverse environments.
Qualifications
- Strong track-record of research productivity during PhD and/or initial postdoctoral training.
- Background in molecular biology (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9, lentivirus, adenovirus).
- Training others is a plus.
Skills
- Ability to develop molecular skills and assays.
- Experience in high-throughput assays for drug discovery.
- Experience in secondary screening assays.
- Experience in cell models.
- Experience in Genetically Engineered Mouse Models (GEMMs).
Benefits
- This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal (for an additional two, one-year increments) contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
- Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
- The position is 100% grant funded and is already included in the FY26 budget.
