About the role

The Environmental Sciences Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a creative individual for a postdoctoral research associate position in ORNL’s Center for Radiation Protection Knowledge (CRPK). The candidate will work with experts in computational radiation dosimetry and risk assessment.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

  • Interact with a team of scientists and engineers at ORNL in a variety of projects involving internal and external dosimetry and radiation risk analysis
  • Provide technical assistance to U.S. federal agencies involved in the development of federal guidance for radiation protection and develop many of the biokinetic and dosimetric models recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and applied by U.S. federal agencies
  • Assist ORNL scientists involved in these efforts, gain expertise in biokinetic and dosimetric modeling, and assist and eventually lead in the preparation of open literature publications in these areas

Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in nuclear or health sciences (such as health physics, radiological health, medical physics, nuclear engineering, applied mathematics or a closely related discipline)
  • Sound foundation in radiation transport, behavior of radionuclides in biological systems, and/or internal and external radiation dosimetry
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines and adapt to ever-changing needs

Special Requirements

  • Cannot have received Ph.D. more than five years prior to application date and must complete all degree requirements before starting appointment
  • Potential for extension of up to 24 months
