About The Research Group

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join a newly established research group at Faculty of Medicine and MultiPark at Lund University. Our research aims to uncover how microglia dynamically modulate neural circuits to shape memory formation and extinction across health, psychiatric disorders (e.g., anxiety and fear disorders), and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The successful candidate will work at the interface of circuit neuroscience and microglial biology, using cutting-edge methodologies including: two-photon microscopy, miniatured microscope, optogenetics, behavioral phenotyping and transcriptomics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead independent research projects within the lab’s research program
  • Perform in vivo calcium imaging and behavioral experiments
  • Analyze neuronal and microglial activity datasets (e.g., calcium imaging)
  • Conduct immunohistochemistry and morphological analysis of microglia and neurons
  • Apply for postdoc fellowship with help from the lab whenever possible

Requirements

Essential requirements

  • PhD in neuroscience
  • Hands-on experience with in vivo calcium imaging (either neurons or glia)
  • Experience with microglia biology or neuroimmune interactions
  • Behavioral experiments
  • Solid data analysis skills (e.g., MATLAB or Python for calcium imaging data)
  • FELASA B certification to conduct mouse experiments (or equivalent)

Meritorious Qualifications

  • Optogenetics or chemogenetics
  • Transcriptomic data analysis
  • Experience with neurodegenerative disease models (e.g., AD/PD)
  • Ability to develop independent research directions

Preference will be given to applicants who have obtained their PhD degree no more than three years prior to the application deadline.

Pay

Monthly salary.

The position is limited to two years with a preliminary start date of 2026-11-01 or by agreement, with the possibility to extend to three years according to collective agreement for postdocs (The Swedish Agency for Government Employers). The start date is flexible, however preferred in fall of 2026.
