Job Summary
The Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join Dr. Jen Jen Yeh’s laboratory. The laboratory focuses on understanding the pathogenesis and pharmacogenomics of pancreatic cancer.
Responsibilities
- Focus on cancer genomics and personalized medicine
- Develop and validate hypotheses of therapeutic relevance to pancreatic cancer using a combination of molecular and genomic data and human-in-mouse models
- Integrate information from high-throughput screens, proteomic data, and next-generation sequencing data
- Collaborate with experimental and computational team members
- Display and interpret processed data for publication
- Communicate scientific material and collaborate with computational and non-computational partners
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Genomics, or an equivalent field
- Experience with common experimental techniques in molecular biology
- Experience working with mouse models
- Experience handling large datasets
- Thorough understanding of common statistical tests and distributions
- Ability to collaborate with experimental and computational team members
- Comfort maintaining datasets and displaying and interpreting processed data for publication
- Demonstrated independence in developing new methods and troubleshooting
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to perform both self-directed and guided research
- Outstanding personal initiative and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Willingness to assist in the mentorship and training of pre-doctoral researchers
- Knowledge of rigor and reproducibility best practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of cancer biology, epigenetics, proteomics, and transcriptomics
- Familiarity with next-generation sequencing data analysis tools
- Experience working in Linux environments, including batch job management on shared computing resources
- Familiarity with a variety of supervised and unsupervised classification techniques
- Proficiency in one or more statistical or scripting languages, preferably R or MATLAB
- Knowledge of survival-based statistical analysis, such as Cox regression and Kaplan-Meier analysis
- Working knowledge of machine learning best practices to avoid overfitting
