Postdoctoral Fellow

About the role

The Postdoctoral Fellow will support an NIH R16-funded research project focused on data analytics, computational genomics, machine learning, and the application of metagenomics to dental diseases. The Fellow will work closely with the Principal Investigator on collaborative, interdisciplinary projects, contribute to student training, and advance Meharry’s mission in biomedical research and workforce development. The position provides access to state-of-the-art computational infrastructure and offers opportunities for career development, publications, and grant participation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct analysis of data generated from R16-funded research projects (25%)
• Develop and apply AI/ML methods to biomedical data, including pipeline development (25%)
• Participate in collaborative research activities, including manuscript preparation and grant development (25%)
• Assist the PI in workshops, mentoring, and training of students and junior trainees (25%)

Requirements

• Solid computing background or data experience, e.g., supercomputing and machine learning
• Good programming skills in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R, etc.)
• Ph.D. in computer science, bioinformatics, quantitative science, computational biology, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

• A good understanding of genetics or molecular biology
• Computing background
