Position Overview
The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics at Johns Hopkins University invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellow positions. Appointment Duration: 2 years (with possibility of renewal depending on funding)
Teaching Load
At most 1 course per semester; often as little as 1 course per year
Start Requirement
Ph.D. must be completed prior to appointment and no later than August 31, 2026
Mathematics
The position provides ample time for research while offering limited teaching responsibilities. Fellows will work closely with Bloomberg Distinguished Professor Domenico Giannone.
Research Focus
Professor Giannone’s Research Lies At The Intersection Of Economics, Applied Statistics, Data Science. Key Areas For Postdoctoral Fellows Include:
- Statistics
- Applied statistics and econometrics
- High-dimensional data analysis
- Forecasting and predictive modeling
- Machine learning methods
- Applications using text and other non-traditional data sources
Collaboration
The Fellow Will Collaborate With Professor Giannone On Interdisciplinary Research

Contribute To Developing Cutting-Edge Quantitative Methods
Co-Author Publications
Participate In Seminars And Collaborative Initiatives
Pursue Independent But Complementary Research
Qualifications
Completed Ph.D. by 8/31/2026 in a relevant field (e.g., Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Applied Mathematics)
Science
Demonstrated promise in research and teaching
