About the role

The Heaton Laboratory at Duke University School of Medicine seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Associate to research mechanisms of and interventions for influenza virus disease using high-throughput genomic screening approaches, primary cell culture systems, and animal models of influenza disease. Recent Ph.D. graduates (or those about to graduate) with interest in this topic are encouraged to apply. The lab values diversity of backgrounds and experience; expertise in all listed approaches is not required, as the lab is a training environment focused on recruiting individuals who love science and are willing to work hard to achieve their goals.

This is a 100% grant-funded position in influenza virus pathogenesis. The appointment is for one year, with extensions contingent on continued funding, performance, and lab needs. The appointment involves substantially full-time research or scholarship and may include teaching responsibilities. It is generally preparatory for a full-time academic or research career and is not part of a clinical training program unless research training under a senior mentor is the primary purpose. The Postdoctoral Appointee functions under the supervision of a mentor or department and is expected to publish research results during the appointment.

  • Consultation of the AAMC Compact Between Postdoctoral Appointees and Their Mentors for suggested guidelines for the mentor relationship
  • Prompt disclosure to the mentor regarding the possession and desire to distribute materials, reagents, software, copyrightable and potentially patentable discoveries derived from the Postdoctoral Appointee's research
  • Collegial conduct towards members of the research group and others as described in the Duke University School of Medicine Honor Code of Professional Conduct and other relevant conduct policies
  • Compliance with all applicable University and departmental policies and procedures

Qualifications
