Postdoctoral Appointee - Research and Development for Robotics/Machine Vision
About the role
thenwith prose. Responsibilities: there is a list of duties: "On any given day you may be called on to: Develop novel algorithms... Develop and field novel robots... Work as part of multidisciplinary... Execute technical work..." Also later: "The successful Postdoctoral appointee will lead and support the development of novel solutions..." That's responsibilities. We'll combine into a
- .
Qualifications: we have "Qualifications We Require" and "Qualifications We Desire". Could combine into Requirements section? The rule: use headings like Requirements, Qualifications, Skills. We could have a Qualifications section with required and desired subpoints? But we must not invent headings not in list. Allowed headings: About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule. We can choose Requirements for required qualifications, Qualifications for desired? Or Skills for desired? Better: Requirements for required qualifications, Qualifications for desired qualifications, Skills maybe for specific skills? But we have many desired qualifications that are skills. Could put them under Skills. However we must not create thin sections. Let's think: We have required qualifications (PhD, experience developing software algorithms, algorithm dev with languages). Desired qualifications include many specific skills (RL, estimation/control, ML libraries, mechatronic integration, software fundamentals, languages, Git, Docker, ROS, optical sensing, fiducial detection, camera calibration, multi-sensor perception, multi-object control, ML algorithms, communication protocols, dynamic systems modeling). Those are skills. So we could have:
- Requirements (required qualifications)
- Skills (desired qualifications)
- Possibly Qualifications could be omitted.
But we also have "About Our Team Organization" which could be About the role? Actually About the role is description of job. About our team could be separate but not in allowed headings. Could fold into About the role? Might be okay to include as part of About the role paragraph. But we need to preserve all substantive information. Could add a paragraph about team under About the role.
We also have "Posting Duration", "Security Clearance", "EEO", "NNSA Requirements For MedPEDs", "Position Information". Those are boilerplate or metadata; we should remove per instructions: remove cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning boilerplate, duplicated lines, and application instructions. So we should drop Security Clearance, EEO, NNSA MedPEDs, Position Information, Posting Duration. Also "About Sandia" intro is maybe not needed? It's about the organization; could be considered part of About the role? Might be considered boilerplate? It's descriptive of Sandia, not specific to job. Might be considered boilerplate but it's about the lab; could be kept as part of About the role? The instruction: remove cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning boilerplate, duplicated lines, and application instructions. "About Sandia" is not explicitly listed but could be considered generic info about employer; not required to keep? The instruction says preserve ALL substantive information; do NOT invent or summarize away detail. The "About Sandia" is substantive about employer, but maybe not required for job posting? However it's part of the posting; we could keep it as part of About the role? Might be okay.
But we need to avoid filler like "commensurate with experience". Not present.
We'll produce HTML:
About the role
Sandia National Laboratories is the nation's premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation, with teams of specialists focused on cutting-edge work in a broad array of areas. Some of the main reasons we love our jobs: challenging work with amazing impact that contributes to security, peace, and freedom worldwide; extraordinary co-workers; some of the best tools, equipment, and research facilities in the world; career advancement and enrichment opportunities; flexible work arrangements for many positions include 9/80 (work 80 hours every two weeks, with every other Friday off) and 4/10 (work 4 ten-hour days each week) compressed workweeks, part-time work, and telecommuting (a mix of onsite work and working from home); generous vacation, strong medical and other benefits, competitive 401k, learning opportunities, relocation assistance and amenities aimed at creating a solid work/life balance. These benefits vary by job classification.
We are seeking a postdoctoral appointee to join our dynamic team to help us solve some of the most significant modern day technical challenges in national security. On any given day you may be called on to: develop novel algorithms for autonomous perception, planning, and action for the control of various mechatronic systems; develop and field novel robots, actuators, and autonomous control systems, including novel R&D drone and counter-drone applications; work as part of multidisciplinary science and engineering teams doing cutting edge research and technology development to support the nation's security needs; execute technical work with excellence to include participating in the development of competitive funding proposals, and publishing results in peer reviewed journals. The successful postdoctoral appointee will lead and support the development of novel solutions for robotic, electromechanical, uncrewed and/or automated/autonomous systems for projects in a fast-paced team environment. Responsibilities will span the breadth of R&D from applied research to the development and delivery of operational systems.
Then Responsibilities? Actually we already included responsibilities in the description. Might duplicate. Better to separate: About the role = overview of Sandia and flexible work arrangements etc. Responsibilities = list of duties. Qualifications = required. Skills = desired. Benefits = benefits. Schedule = flexible work arrangements. But we already included flexible work arrangements and benefits in About the role; we could move them to Benefits and Schedule sections. Let's restructure: - About the role: description of Sandia and the role purpose (maybe short). - Responsibilities: list of duties. - Requirements: required qualifications. - Skills: desired qualifications (skills). - Benefits: benefits info. - Schedule: flexible work arrangements. We must not repeat content. Let's extract. About the role: "Sandia National Laboratories is the nation's premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation, with teams of specialists focused on cutting-edge work in a broad array of areas. Some of the main reasons we love our jobs: Challenging work with amazing impact that contributes to security, peace, and freedom worldwide; Extraordinary co-workers; Some of the best tools, equipment, and research facilities in the world; Career advancement and enrichment opportunities." That's about the lab and why we love jobs. Could also include "We are seeking a postdoctoral appointee to join our dynamic team to help us solve some of the most significant modern day technical challenges in national security." That's role purpose. Responsibilities: list of duties from "On any given day you may be called on to:" and the later sentence about leading and supporting development. Requirements: PhD in Robotics/Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or similar, with a focus on automation, autonomy, and/or robotic systems; Experience developing software algorithms and/or applications and/or development and realization of hardware; Algorithm development or programming experience with one or more of the following: C, C++, Matlab, Python or similar languages. Skills: Experience in reinforcement learning (RL), especially in applied RL for UAS/drone control or agile robotics; Background/experience in developing/applying estimation and control theory/algorithms, especially for UAS/drones; Experience with machine learning accelerated computing software libraries (e.g., jax, pytorch, tensorflow, etc. for python or ML libraries in other languages); Experience developing and implementing challenging engineering solutions for end users, including experience with designing and integrating mechatronic hardware/software systems; Strong software development fundamentals, including one or more of the following: Languages: Python and C++; Experience with Git workflows; Experience with Docker environments; Familiarity with ROS and/or ROS2; Experience with optical sensing; Experience with fiducial generation and detection algorithms (e.g. for Apriltags, QR-codes, or similar); Understanding of camera calibration, image registration, image manipulation, and image processing; Experience implementing advanced multi-sensor perception systems; Experience with multi-object control and/or tracking algorithms; Training and/or developing machine learning algorithms for object classification, target recognition, and anomaly detection and characterization; Experience with communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, TCP/IP, EtherCAT) and physical layers (Wired, RF, Optical); Dynamic systems modeling and/or optimization. Benefits: Generous vacation, strong medical and other benefits, competitive 401k, learning opportunities, relocation assistance and amenities aimed at creating a solid work/life balance. These benefits vary by job classification. Schedule: Flexible work arrangements for many positions include 9/80 (work 80 hours every two weeks, with every other Friday off) and 4/10 (work 4 ten-hour days each week) compressed workweeks, part-time work, and telecommuting (a mix of onsite work and working from home). We should also maybe include "Postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance." That's substantive info about position duration etc. Could be placed under About the role or a separate section like "Position". Not in allowed headings. Could fold into About the role paragraph. We must not include boilerplate like Posting Duration, Security Clearance, EEO, NNSA MedPEDs, etc. Now produce HTML fragment with sections only if they have content. All sections have content. We'll usefor each heading. Use
- for lists. Use
for prose. We need to ensure we don't repeat job title as heading. Not using. Let's craft. About the role: combine Sandia description and role purpose and maybe position duration info. Paragraph: "Sandia National Laboratories is the nation's premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation, with teams of specialists focused on cutting-edge work in a broad array of areas. Some of the main reasons we love our jobs: challenging work with amazing impact that contributes to security, peace, and
