Specific Responsibilities

  • Conduct original scientific research supporting the objectives of the Geospace Dynamics Constellation mission.
  • Investigate the effects of geomagnetic disturbances on low- and mid-latitude electrodynamics and coupled ion-neutral dynamics.
  • Analyze and interpret ground-based and satellite observations of ionospheric electrodynamics and ion-neutral coupling.
  • Affiliate with the design, execution, and interpretation of Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs) using synthetic datasets.
  • Assess the capability of the Geospace Dynamics Constellation, potentially in conjunction with the DYNAMIC mission, to advance understanding of processes that enhance or suppress equatorial plasma bubble and spread-F development.
  • Collaborate with scientists and mission teams on research activities and scientific assessments.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Present scientific results at conferences, workshops, and professional meetings.

Education

  • Ph.D. in Space Physics, Atmospheric Science, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related scientific discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience conducting novel scientific research.
  • Demonstrated record of communicating scientific results through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
  • Demonstrated publication record in low- and mid-latitude ionospheric electrodynamics.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in the analysis and interpretation of ground-based and satellite observations of ionospheric electrodynamics and ion-neutral coupling at low and mid latitudes.
  • Knowledge of ionospheric and thermospheric dynamics and magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling processes.
  • Experience working with scientific datasets, data analysis tools, and modeling or simulation techniques.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts effectively through written publications and oral presentations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
