Postdoc Research Associate Cell Biology
We are seeking an eager and self-motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join Dr. Sameer Bajikar’s laboratory (www.bajikarlab.com) in the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. The lab focuses on studying the underlying causes of neurodevelopmental disorders through the development and characterization of new cellular and rodent models and tools.
About the role
The prospective employee will work closely with the Principal Investigator to complete experiments in support of ongoing, long-term research projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform experimental procedures aligned with Dr. Bajikar's project goals, including self-planning and design of experiments such as:
- PCR and molecular biology/recombinant DNA techniques
- Cell culture
- Protein and RNA isolation
- Quantitative RT-PCR and immunoblotting
- Mouse colony maintenance, handling, and experimentation
- Provide experimental support for larger-scale, long-term experiments led by other lab members
- Maintain an organized and detailed lab notebook, tabulate experimental results, and manage reagent inventory
- Prepare summary figures and presentations of results
- Attend and participate in lab meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Doctoral degree (required)
- Experience in rodent handling (preferred)
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary role involving extensive use of desktop computers. Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings and programs.
Pay
The anticipated hiring range is $63,480–$65,000, commensurate with education and experience.
Schedule
This position has a term limit of 1 year, with continued employment dependent on department need and funding.
Work Arrangement
This is a fully on-site position based in Charlottesville, VA.
