Job Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and supervise all instructional mailroom operations.
• Cook up activities between the institution and the U. S. Post Office.
• Serve as the overseer of the postal specialists position.
• Supervise the receiving, sorting, and distribution of all U.S. and departmental mail to ensure proper delivery.
• Open and inspect all incoming mail for contraband.
• Prepare various logs and reports daily.
• Maintain accurate accounting of all funds.
• Supervise and coordinate fiscal activities for the E. H. Cooper Trust Fund.
• Serve as notary public for inmate population.
• Work closely with property control officer in handling packages received through U.S. Postal service.
• Possess thorough knowledge of postal regulations.
• Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

• State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier or delivery operations.
• SCDC Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations with one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• An associate degree or higher with one (1) year of supervisory experience may be substituted for the required work experience.
