Post Heart Transplant Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA)
Position Description
The Post Heart Transplant outpatient team is seeking an Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (APP) to join their team. This position offers five 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday, with rotating on-call duties. The location is at Inova Center for Personalized Health.
Position Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program
- Must be approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Virginia
- Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required
- BLS and ACLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice
- Nurse Practitioner: Master’s Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required
- License to practice as a Registered Nurse required
- Certification in practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required
- ACNP, AGACNP certification preferred based on population served
- Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master’s Degree preferred
- Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred
- APP experience preferred; prior transplant and/cardiology experience preferred
- Demonstrate appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills when working in a fast-paced, high acuity work environment
- Able to perform a thorough history and physical assessment

- Certification - Basic Life Support prior to start; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (for Critical Care) upon start; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (for Pediatrics) upon start
- Licensure - Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances).
- Experience - No prior experience required; APP experience highly preferred
- Education - For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing; For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
