About the role
The Post-doctoral Researcher will perform independent research in preparation for a career as a scientific professional, contributing to and advancing the research agenda of the Electrochemical Safety Research Institute.
Responsibilities
- Conducts experiments focused on energy storage safety science, with an emphasis on lithium-ion batteries, or other battery chemistries.
- Applies knowledge of scientific principles to the specific research tasks.
- Exercises a high degree of judgment in formulating, evaluating, and correlating broad research concepts, guiding the analysis of unique problems, and developing new and improved techniques and methods.
- Assume primary responsibility for development of independent research.
- Aid in experiments, data collection, evaluations, and support researchers on projects; analyze results.
- Plan, design and complete initial and follow up procedures as needed to test and validate results.
- Perform research to a high standard and in accordance with all institutional and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with ULRI colleagues and ULRI research partners such as universities.
- Contribute to and participate in webinars, conference presentations, writing papers for journal publications, facilitate training programs.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science conferred within three years of application or completion of Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment.
- Experience working with lithium-ion or other battery chemistries, required.
Qualifications
- Proven ability to perform independent research and support publication.
- Demonstrated general knowledge of scientific and/or engineering disciplines that include electrochemical engineering, energy storage, battery safety or safety of other energy technologies.
- Ability to support research in a lab environment.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting experiments involving lithium-ion batteries or other battery chemistries.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain academic and applied knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of programming languages for data analysis and report development.
- Ability to collaborate with peers and work directly with other team members and external collaborators to complete a project from start to finish.
- Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, specifically PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

Pay
$67,319.32 - $92,564.06 per year. Salary is commensurate with experience.
