About the role

The Marine Conservation Innovation Group and the Elizabeth Madin Laboratory at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology seek a postdoctoral fellow specializing in quantitative conservation ecology, with a focus on geospatial and machine learning approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead research investigating human impacts on coral reefs using new and emerging tools.
  • Apply novel machine learning algorithms for automated detection and measurement of reef halos from high-resolution satellite imagery.
  • Develop and execute your own research questions related to coral reef science and conservation.
  • Mentor graduate students and interns.

Requirements

  • PhD in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with machine learning and geospatial analysis.
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience with coral reef ecosystems.
  • Interest in marine conservation and policy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
