Post Doctoral Fellow - Department of Chemistry
Clemson University’s College of Science, Department of Chemistry, is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Kolis research group.
About the role
The successful candidate will work on an NSF-funded project focused on the synthesis and characterization of single crystals with unusual magnetic and quantum material properties. The research employs a unique high-temperature hydrothermal method to explore new structure types and metal oxidation states, aiming to discover materials with frustrated magnetic states and quantum properties.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute experiments to synthesize single crystals using high-temperature hydrothermal methods (500–700°C, pressures exceeding 200 kPa).
- Characterize compounds using single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction.
- Assist in the collection and analysis of magnetic data.
- Provide oversight and mentorship to junior members of the research group.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
- Prior experience with high-temperature hydrothermal single-crystal growth and X-ray diffraction characterization.
- Proven ability to perform reactions in high-temperature, high-pressure solvent environments.
Additional Information
The anticipated start date is flexible, with a preference for late August 2026. The initial appointment is for one year, with options for yearly renewal based on performance and funding availability.
