Post Doctoral Fellow - CQuIC

Analyst$74k/yrFull-time

The Center for Quantum Information and Control (CQuIC) at the University of New Mexico invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellowships in theoretical quantum information science (QIS) as part of the National Science Foundation’s Focused Research Hub in Theoretical Physics (FRHTP).

About the role

CQuIC is an interdisciplinary QIS research center, with participating faculty from physics, chemistry, electrical and computer engineering, and computer science. Research covers a broad range of foundational and applied investigations on topics including quantum computation, control, measurement, communication, and simulation. CQuIC is an active participant in several multi-institutional centers under the National Quantum Initiative (NQI), including the NSF Quantum Leap Challenge Institute, “Quantum Systems through Entangled Science and Engineering” (Q-SEnSE), and the DOE “Quantum Systems Accelerator” (QSA).

As a QIS theory hub, CQuIC hosts visitors, seminars, hot-topics workshops, and serves as the scientific home of the Southwest Quantum Information and Technology (SQuInT) network. FRHTP Postdoctoral Fellows will have the opportunity to pursue independent research, collaborate with CQuIC faculty, and interact with leading researchers at partner institutions, including Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Honeywell Quantum Solutions, and collaborators at Q-SEnSE and QSA NQI Centers. Fellows will also participate in hub activities, such as workshops and SQuInT.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in a discipline related to QIS, completed by the time of employment.
  • A demonstrated record of accomplishment in QIS and potential for research accomplishment at CQuIC.
  • Potential to contribute to center-wide research-training and FRHTP “hub activities.”
  • Ability to work productively with CQuIC faculty and partners.
  • Specific interest in CQuIC research areas.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

Benefits

  • Initial term of appointment: two years, with the possibility of extension to a third year.
  • Starting salary of at least $74,200 per year plus benefits.
  • A substantial stipend for domestic and international travel and other expenses.

Location

Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, CQuIC has contributed to research and education in quantum information theory for over 25 years. Albuquerque offers a rich cultural environment, low cost of living, beautiful weather, hiking, nearby skiing, and many other outdoor activities.

Review of applications will commence on November 15, 2023, but applications will be considered until the positions are filled.
