About the Role

The Post-Doctoral Fellow will undertake the dedicated research project, 'Oral Her-story Archive: Feminist Activism in Response to Child Sexual Assault in New South Wales (1980-present)'. The project will build an oral history archive preserving a significant yet under-documented history of feminist activism and children's rights advocacy in response to child sexual assault in NSW, from grassroots campaigns of the 1980s through to the present. The archive will capture first-hand accounts from key activists, advocates, government agency staff, sector workers and other stakeholders, while documenting the broader social, political and legal contexts that shaped the period. The archive will form the foundation for a comprehensive history of child sexual assault in Australia from the 1980s onwards. The history has been generously funded by Gillian Calvert AO, a leading figure in the feminist movement against child sexual abuse (CSA) and NSW's inaugural Commissioner for Children and Young People (1999-2009), and Clare Donnellan, a former women's health worker, midwife and Senior Executive in statutory child protection. The position reports to the historian and gender studies scholar, Associate Professor Zora Simic, and has no direct reports.
