About the role
The successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office on the first day of employment. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt, 9-month postdoctoral position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
Responsibilities
- Characterize Au-Bi-Te mineralization and precipitation pathways in the Pogo Au deposit, Alaska.
- Engage with a thriving academic community in both the Geophysical Institute and the Department of Geosciences.
- Regularly engage with local industry geologists through access to the mine for regular sampling.
- Apply principles of fluid evolution, water-rock interaction, interface coupled dissolution precipitation, chemical reaction kinetics, and equilibrium thermodynamics to a structurally complex ore body.
Requirements
- Holds a Ph.D. in Geology/Earth Science or a related science field at the time of appointment.
Qualifications
- Strong background in mineralogy and geochemistry/petrology.
- Experience in both academic and mining or mineral exploration systems is beneficial.
- Expertise in economic geology is desired but not required.
