About the Role
The applicant will participate in switchgrass and turfgrass disease management by breeding for disease resistance and exploring for biocontrol agents. The applicant will work on identifying sources of disease resistance, carrying out functional analysis of gene expression, developing collections of plant pathogens and mycoparasites, studying pathogen population structure, and investigating parasite-pathogen-plant interactions. The candidate will work in collaboration with plant breeders, molecular biologist, plant pathologists and extension faculty. The candidate will help in drafting papers and grant proposals.
Qualifications
- Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification: In Position Ph.D in Plant Pathology or other relevant field.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (1) experience with rust diseases in grasses, (2) experience with Genotyping-by-Sequencing and RNAseq library preparation, (3) experience in parasite-pathogen interactions, (4) experience with Claviceps pathogens, and (5) experience with pathogen population genetic analysis.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR COMPETENCIES: Experiences with field disease phenotyping, QTL mapping, GWAS analysis, bioinformatics, interest and experience in collaborative research, background in pathogen population genetics, plant breeding, molecular genetics, genomics or other relevant background.
