Post Doctoral Associate-Neurobiology

About the role

The Department of Neurobiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in the laboratory of Dr. Vibhu Sahni. The laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular and developmental mechanisms that establish long-range corticofugal connectivity and determine developmental processes contributing to the regenerative failure of neural circuits. Research involves using mouse genetic models, viral tools, molecular profiling, and anatomical and functional analyses to define how developmental programs shape neural circuit assembly and identify strategies to restore axon growth and functional recovery following injury.

Responsibilities

• Develop an independent research program while contributing to ongoing laboratory projects investigating the development and regeneration of descending motor pathways.
• Employ a combination of molecular biology, mouse genetics, viral vector approaches, imaging, neuroanatomy, transcriptomics, and computational analysis.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate trainees.
• Participate in laboratory management.
• Present research at national and international meetings.
• Contribute to manuscript and grant preparation.

Requirements

• A Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Experience in developmental neuroscience, neural regeneration, mouse genetics, molecular biology, viral vector approaches, imaging, neuroanatomy, transcriptomics, or computational analysis of biological data is desirable.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• A demonstrated publication record.
• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Skills

• Research experience in developmental neuroscience, neural regeneration, mouse genetics, molecular biology, viral vector approaches, imaging, neuroanatomy, transcriptomics, or computational analysis of biological data.
