Post-Doc in Economics for a project on climate hazards and migration
Job Description and Duties
The Nordic Africa Institute is seeking a post-doctoral position in Economics for a project on climate hazards and migration. The position is funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR) and involves applying and developing appropriate modeling tools to assess the vulnerability of demographic groups to climate change impacts, quantify relationships underlying migration, and investigate anticipated dynamic migration patterns.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting research on climate hazards and migration in Madagascar
- Assessing the vulnerability of specific demographic groups to climate change impacts
- Quantifying relationships between socio-environmental change and migration
- Investigating anticipated dynamic migration patterns
- Communicating findings to key stakeholders
Qualifications and Requirements
The successful candidate should have:
- A PhD in economics or another quantitative social science discipline within three years to the application date
- Strong analytical skills in core economic theory and quantitative methods
- Advanced analytical skills in data manipulation and quantitative analysis of large datasets
- Experience in using R, STATA, or another econometrics software
- Experience conducting independent research projects
- Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to contribute effectively as part of a team
- Excellent English skills in writing and speaking
About the Employment
The employment is a temporary position of one year, with the possibility of a one-year extension. The starting date is September 1st, 2023. The scope of employment is 100%, and the salary range is 35,000 - 37,000 SEK monthly, subject to skills and experience.
