Duties / Responsibilities
- Carries out contractual requirements related to post delivery service contractual provisions.
- Manages repair efforts in offsite locations and travels to support vessels during their post delivery service period.
- Acts as the primary point of contact for customers regarding contractual issues.
- Communicates with Project Manager about appropriate courses of action for post delivery service (warranty) vs. non-post delivery (non-warranty) issues.
- Manages Austal/subcontracted production personnel in off-site locations.
- Sets up and attends meetings with customers (Navy Active duty and/or MSC).
- Manages off-site repairs with Subcontractors.
- Works with Austal SCM personnel for parts support.
- Liaises with Austal Engineering on technical issues.
- Collaborates with Test and Activation and Ships Management to understand issues related to the hull under post delivery service contract (warranty).
- Attends Final Contract Trials as the Warranty Representative.
- Assumes duties of the Projects Manager when unavailable.
- Promotes customer satisfaction.
- Hires and manages the performance of subcontractors/vendors in the execution of warranty provisions.
- Complies with Austal’s employee handbook and company procedures and policies.
Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience
- Six (6) years shipyard experience or eight (8) years maritime experience required.
- Three (3) years supervisory experience, or, two (2) years as a Post Delivery Service Engineer II (Warranty Engineer II) required.
- Four (4)+ years knowledge of shipyard practices and operational principles of the shipbuilding process required.
- A combination of education and years’ experience may be considered in lieu of experience described above.
- An ability to communicate and speak effectively required.
- Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend ship construction drawings, schematics, technical manuals and equipment operational procedures/information required.
- Prior Homeport repair/modification experience desired.
- Fundamental technical understanding of ships propulsion systems, electrical power generation and auxiliaries related to marine vessels required.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience with large propulsion diesels (5,000HP+) and propulsion gas turbine engines (20,000HP+) required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and personnel under very visible oversight required.
- Possess ability to work under pressure to place the vessel back into operation as quickly as possible required.
- Possess the desire and ability to speak in public and to deliver information to the customer and Austal USA required.
Tools
- Must be able to use the Microsoft Office programs as well as other Austal systems used in the management of our shipbuilding contracts.
- Must be able to read and understand contractual documentation and be able to speak to those issues with our contracts department.
