M&F Talent is recruiting for a large-scale hydroponic greenhouse operation in New York seeking a skilled Grower to oversee all aspects of commercial leafy greens production. The facility uses advanced controlled environment agriculture (CEA) techniques to deliver fresh, local, pesticide-free lettuce. This full-time, on-site role calls for a technically proficient, hands-on horticulture professional who values sustainability, innovation, and local food systems.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the extended team to improve and enhance system performance.
- Manage the grow plan for indoor crop production.
- Oversee product quality and order fulfillment.
- Manage hydroponics cultivation procedures and nutrient protocols.
- Teach cultivation team the importance of accurate feeding and pH monitoring.
- Keep accurate records of garden data and performance to present to upper management.
- Follow and enforce strict standards related to grow operations and crop quality.
- Delegate appropriate tasks related to planting, cloning, and harvest.
- Train staff on uses of smart grow technology and CEA equipment.
- Ensure facilities department keeps accurate records on cultivation equipment.
- Monitor and report KPIs throughout the business year.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, or related field strongly preferred.
- 5–10 years’ experience in a management role in commercial greenhouse production.
- Understanding of all aspects of CEA crop production and growing.
- Management experience with direct reports.
- Candidates with experience in academia or a strong training/mentoring background preferred.
- Expert understanding of hydroponics equipment and systems.
- Working expertise with horticultural lighting, smart grow tech, and commercial fertigation.
- Experience with climate control software platforms.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Available to work weekends and flexible hours as required.
- Commercial production experience in hydroponics.
- Commercial production experience in leafy greens preferred; other crop types (e.g., tomato, strawberry, cucumber/vine crops) will be considered.
- Superior problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Extremely well organized.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with business intelligence systems.
