About the role

This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-time Ports and Marine Engineer for the following offices: Irvine+San Diego+San Francisco-CA, Miami-FL, Portland-OR, Seattle-WA, Houston-TX. This person will be involved in projects with our Ports and Maritime Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Perform civil/structural design for marine and upland components under supervision of senior ports and marine engineers
  • Prepare technical written communications in the form of memoranda and reports
  • Support managers in the creation of plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates in accordance with client requirements
  • Work in a team to make sure that work product meets scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements
  • Perform design calculations in support of broader engineering activities
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work
  • Avoidance of work plan preparation and coordination of site work and code compliance
  • Complete training on assigned tasks
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 3-5 years of relevant post education experience
  • Familiarity with marine, port, and civil/structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues
  • Familiar with relevant marine, port, and coastal construction codes, regulations, and compliance practices
  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, relevant engineering software, , spreadsheets, and other tools
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit)
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements

Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training Certification
  • Prior design experience
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations
  • Previous experience in design of marine upland facilities
  • Field investigation and/or construction support experience
  • Hands-on design experience
  • Additional positions available for individuals holding a commercial dive license (ADCI or DCBC)

Expected Salary (all locations): $77,000-125,000
