Portfolio Manager - Special Projects (Distribution)
Welty Energy & Infrastructure (WE&I), an affiliate of Welty Enterprises, is a professional services company specializing in program and project management, transmission line engineering, distribution engineering, substation engineering, and construction oversight on transmission, substation, and distribution projects ranging in voltages from 4kV up to 765kV. Headquartered in Akron, OH, and working nationally, WE&I currently manages approximately $500 million in construction projects for electric utilities in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S.
About the role
As part of Welty Energy & Infrastructure’s Management Team, the Portfolio Manager will foster client relationships, staff engagement, and process improvement while striving to become the best customer-centric professional services consulting firm for electric utilities in our target geographic region. This role is intended to be based out of our Akron, OH office or remote in Pennsylvania, with 10-20% travel required.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators who manage transmission and distribution projects for our client(s).
- Recruit and retain high-quality talent; support career development of your team and conduct career conversations.
- Assign projects appropriately to your team and consult on projects where your expertise and guidance are needed; attend site visits as required.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert (SME) for all client software, tools, and processes utilized by your team; provide training to incoming and existing staff.
- Foster a Welty virtual environment via Microsoft Teams.
- Participate in salary administration for your team.
- Establish and be accountable for goals for yourself and your team that align with WE&I’s objectives, including growth targets.
- Drive utilization, performance, and profitability for your team’s projects.
- Collaborate with the WE&I Management Team and other groups (such as Engineering) to share resources and deliver excellence to clients.
- Foster and maintain relationships with designated clients, acting as an advocate for WE&I’s portfolio of services and capabilities.
- Drive functional excellence and client satisfaction; provide general consultation to clients while ensuring project-specific decisions are communicated by the assigned Project Manager.
- Foster a safety-focused culture; perform safety observations during field visits at project locations.
- May be assigned as Project Manager for specific projects or assist with the pursuit of new business with existing and/or potential clients.
- Support the company with strategic initiatives.
- Act as a role model for Welty Core Values (Openness, Passion, Teamwork, Integrity, Customer Centricity) and Welty Energy strategic objectives.
- Establish trust and healthy rapport with all WE&I staff at all levels of the organization.
- Meet timesheet and expense expectations, including appropriate application to corresponding projects and weekly submittal and approval deadlines for you and your team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or similar; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience managing projects or exceptional, demonstrated experience; electric utility project management preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing people or exceptional, demonstrated experience.
- PMP certification preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective leadership and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn client’s systems, tools, and processes.
- 10-20% travel required.
