About the Role
The Portfolio Manager III ensures all reviews and renewals of commercial/retail banking loan products are completed and re-documented prior to becoming an administrative past due. This role is responsible for interim monitoring of loan covenants, borrowing base certificates, and other credit conditions. Collaborating with bank lenders, the Portfolio Manager III enhances client relationships, makes credit decisions in compliance with bank policies, and oversees ongoing portfolio performance to maximize penetration and return.
Responsibilities
- Credit Assessment & Risk Management
- Collaborate with relationship managers to generate client solutions, pursue marketing efforts, and deliver timely solutions.
- Actively manage client solution opportunities within portfolios and coordinate preparation of lending proposals.
- Provide deal structuring expertise and negotiate transactions with clients.
- Maintain awareness of all firm products and services and facilitate continuous updates.
- Perform accurate financial analysis and oversight of new and existing bank customers, including review and analysis of complex financial statements and tax returns.
- Protect the Bank’s assets by adhering to lending processes, policies, legal and ethical requirements, and risk management guidelines.
- Ensure all commercial banking business conforms to bank policies and exercise unilateral discretionary limits for credit decisions.
- Adhere to Know Your Customer (KYC) rules and report suspicious transactions related to fraud or money laundering.
- Client Performance Management
- Oversee documentation and ongoing monitoring of asset and client performance.
- Actively manage portfolio to maximize return and credit quality.
- Prepare or oversee preparation of concise, well-reasoned credit correspondence.
- Monitor covenants of clients to identify deteriorating credit conditions and ensure compliance with loan agreements.
- Monitor high-risk loans and transfer to Special Assets Monitoring Unit as appropriate.
- Ensure renewals, reviews, and monitoring are completed on time to avoid administrative past dues.
- Sales Support and Partnerships
- Maintain key ongoing contact with lending clients in conjunction with relationship managers.
- Work with specialists to support cross-sell opportunities and enhance existing services.
- Increase share of wallet with customers by identifying cross-sell opportunities (e.g., credit, deposit, cash management).
- Management of Workflow
- Effectively manage workflow by aligning tasks with departmental goals.
- Lead team success through mentoring, coaching, and career development of analysts and associates.
- Complete annual compliance courses and adhere to corporate policies, federal/state regulations, and laws (e.g., Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering Act).
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- More than 10 years of portfolio management experience.
- Intermediate knowledge of bank operations, products, services, and related state/federal laws and regulations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation, including word processing, spreadsheet, and specialty software programs.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Qualifications
- Proven background in reviewing and analyzing complex financial statements and tax returns.
- Ability to evaluate repayment capacity and consult on structure, collateral, and ownership.
- Experience exercising discretionary credit approval limits and ensuring compliance with lending policies.
