About the role
The Porter plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and sanitation of the facility for all residents, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Helps to complete work orders and minor building repairs
- Cleans and sanitizes all assigned vacant units within 4 hours post discharge
- Cleans all public areas and workspaces as assigned
- Completes all work orders as assigned
- Empties all trash from the compactor as assigned
- Cleans and maintains floors (strip, wax, buff, mop and/or vacuum) as assigned
- Cleans and sanitizes all bathrooms as assigned
- Paints and makes minor repairs of the facility and facility property as assigned
- Auxiliary in moving furniture and belongings of clients into and out of units as assigned
- Auxiliary in ground clean up and snow removal as assigned
- Stores and retrieves deliveries and supplies as assigned
- Auxiliary in any special projects as assigned
- Maintains proper care and maintenance of tools, supplies, and equipment
- Drives agency vehicles as needed
- Accurately tracks all mileage within van logbook
- Retrieves and/or delivers interoffice mail to DHS, DHQ as needed
- Maintains a safe and sanitary workspace and follows all OSHA regulations
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience working with a disadvantaged population is a plus
- Ability to lift at least fifty pounds
- Eight-hour shift primarily standing and moving
- Ability to take and follow instructions and follow through with assigned tasks
- Familiarity with basic cleaning equipment
- Skills in repair and technical knowledge of working of physical plant preferred
- Valid NYS Driver’s License is strongly preferred
- Willingness to become certified as a Fire Safety Coordinator is strongly desired
