Portable Sanitation Technician

About the role

The Portable Sanitation Technician is primarily responsible for operating a company truck and driving to various customer locations to deliver, pick up, maintain, service, or repair portable restrooms, hand sinks, holding tanks, or any assigned asset. This position may involve daily routes, pick-up and delivery schedules, yard/shop assistance, or special events. The role is exposed to extreme weather conditions, unpleasant odors, and sights, with varying hours and physical demands. Teamwork is essential, as technicians may be asked to assist in different departments as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operates truck safely in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
• Maintains a clean truck inside and out.
• Performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections as per Stallion procedures and D.O.T. guidelines; reports major concerns to the Branch Operations Manager immediately.
• Follows all Stallion’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and General Standards.
• Immediately reports unsafe situations or service-related issues to the dispatch office for resolution.
• Performs tasks assigned by the Branch Operations Manager, including delivery/pick-up of rental equipment, restocking trucks, organizing the shop/yard, assisting in other departments, or responding to emergency calls.
• Provides service for customers’ portable restrooms or related assets by consistently following Stallion Service Steps.
• Keeps work areas in the yard clean and organized; notifies the Branch Manager of hazards.
• Communicates with the Branch Operations Manager and office staff regarding job hindrances (e.g., low inventory, keys, chemicals, supplies).
• Submits all route information and paperwork to the office at the end of each shift.
• Utilizes dispatching software for routing, documenting photos, logging customer concerns, and providing real-time updates during the route.
• Maintains professional interaction with employees and customers at all times.
• Delivers courteous and expeditious customer service; documents all customer contact using routing software.
• Answers customer questions and directs them to the office for additional information.
• Provides routing feedback to the office and Dispatcher to optimize efficiency and customer service.
• Wears uniforms at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to read, operate, and understand an electronic map/GPS/dispatching system using a phone or iPad.
• Ability to perform prolonged physical exertions, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
• General knowledge of truck mechanics.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain, wind).
• Good written and verbal communication skills for professional interaction with staff and customers.
• Ability to pull a trailer preferred.
• Waste industry experience preferred.

Physical Demands

• Works in a variety of environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, weather variations, noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, and dust.
• Possible exposure to human waste and high-traffic conditions outside the vehicle.
• Physically able to push or pull 50 pounds unassisted 25–50 times per day.
• Physically able to lift 50 pounds from the ground to waist height unassisted 25–50 times per day.
• Physically able to get up and down from the cab of a commercial motor vehicle 30–50 times per day.
• Physically able to lift 100 pounds with assistance 20–30 times per day.
• Physically able to bend at the waist and knees 120–150 times per day.
• Physically able to reach overhead and pull down using 20 pounds of force to secure a tarp.
• Physically able to climb up to 8 feet in height to deploy a 25-pound tarp.
• Physically able to work 8–12 hours in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).

Qualifications

• Legally eligible to work in the United States.
• 1-year previous commercial driving experience preferred.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must pass pre-employment background screen and drug/alcohol tests.
• Must stay updated on current technology relevant to the role.
• Understand waste collection policies, procedures, guidelines, and D.O.T./State requirements for commercial motor vehicle operators.
• Hearing and vision within normal ranges, with or without correction.

Work Environment

This position is primarily outdoors and/or involves driving a GPS-monitored vehicle. Technicians may be exposed to extreme weather, unpleasant odors, and physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.
