About the Role

Diagnose and provide service and repairs to pool and spa equipment including electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire & safety, and water chemistry. Respond to calls and problems in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner to achieve maximum customer satisfaction while complying with all aspects of the Engineering Department Standards and Policies. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned preventive maintenance of equipment and accurately document all work performed.
  • Diagnose and perform repairs of assigned equipment including (but not limited to) motors, starters, breakers, pumps, steam generators, boilers, plumbing fixtures, and associated pool and spa equipment throughout the entire campus.
  • Comply with all Houstonian Hotel, Club and Spa / Engineering Department policies and procedures.
  • Respond to guest calls regarding maintenance of pool and spa related equipment in all areas of the campus in an effective, professional, and timely manner.
  • Respond as required to all emergency conditions such as evacuation, fire, power failure, flood, hurricane, etc.
  • Clean all shops and Engineering Mechanical areas, order and maintain proper inventory levels of parts and supplies to ensure a well-organized department and Campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school education, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 to 4 years of field experience maintaining one or more of the following types of equipment: Pool and Spa Equipment, HVAC, Electrical/Mechanical, Plumbing, Commercial Kitchen, Commercial Laundry, and Refrigeration.
  • Must obtain Certified Pool Operators Certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and maintain a good driving record in compliance with company policy.
  • Must be able to work safely and effectively in outdoor temperatures, including summer temperatures above 95°F for 5 months of the year and winter lows below 20°F for 2 months of the year.
  • Must be able to swim.

Skills

  • Extended hours in an outdoor environment with appropriate safety precautions.
  • Self-control and patience to ensure a positive and efficient workspace.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift, including frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, and lifting/carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional driving of a company vehicle equipped with a lift gate and/or standard transmission.
  • Effective one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers, and use of a 2-way radio for clear communication with co-workers.
  • Ability to read instructions, data plates, equipment serial numbers, work orders, gauges, and charts, and perform maintenance under varied lighting conditions.
  • Ability to produce, read, and understand reports, including security, incident, and police reports, and analyze written information from various sources.
  • Safe handling of chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes, and regulatory requirements.
