Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide a strong sense of welcome; greet all guests in a genuinely friendly, warm manner, using guests’ names when possible.
- Seat guests using the rotation sheet when the Host Person and Manager, or Supervisor are busy.
- Be thoroughly familiar with all menu items, ingredients, specials, beverages, etc.
- Take guests' orders, using upselling and suggestive selling.
- Complete station set-up, breakdown, and side work.
- Constantly check tables and side stands during the shift.
- Ensure service to all guests follows established standards, is consistent, efficient, and courteous.
- Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly, and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
Required Skills & Experience
- Ability to provide friendly, efficient, and courteous service to guests.
- Ability to access, input, and retrieve information on the computer system.
- Ability to memorize menus.
- Ability to handle the stress inherent in interacting with co-employees and resolving guests' problems.
- Ability to work under pressure, be organized, self-motivated, and work well with others.
- Strong positive attitude and ability to initiate light conversation with guests.
- Knowledge of hotel property and operating hours of each guest service area.
- Basic knowledge of Charleston and the surrounding areas.
- Ability to provide legible communication.
- Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift equipment, supplies, etc., of at least 30 pounds.
- Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.
- The role may require extended periods on your feet, especially during peak hotel hours or events.
- Clear vision is important for reading reports, analyzing data, and overseeing (enter department) activities.
- Good hearing is necessary for effective communication with colleagues, guests, and stakeholders.
