Responsibilities

  • Safeguards and regulates the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents.
  • Administers first aid or CPR as needed.
  • Regulates the prompt performance of emergency lifesaving and rescue techniques.
  • Affords assistance with the planning and implementation of aquatic programs, swim meets, pool games, etc.
  • Maintains pool deck, dressing rooms, restrooms, office and other physical areas of the facility.
  • Maintains physical condition by training, including rescue procedure drills, running, swimming, paddling and other necessary conditioning and rescue exercises.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or High School Student at least 16 years of age.
  • Two (2) seasons of paid work experience as a Lifeguard.
  • Administered water safety instruction, safety training and rescue programs.
  • Some supervisory experience or training in the enforcement of rules and regulations for public aquatic facilities.

Qualifications

  • Must possess current certification from American Red Cross in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR and AED upon hire.
  • Complete and pass a FDLE Level 2 Background Screening as required by the State of Florida.
  • Valid Driver’s License: With proof of automobile insurance.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the use and application of pool rescue methods and first aid practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of state, local, and city departmental laws, rules and regulations governing the operation and use of a municipal pool.
  • Knowledge of City of Hollywood Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department rules and regulations, procedures and requirements.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods and content of aquatics events, pool activities, swim meets and other related programs.
  • Excellent public relation skills, interpersonal and customer service skills, above-average verbal and written communication skills, good organizational skills and time-management skills.
  • Establishes and maintains effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors, managers and the public.
