POOL- Instructor- Professional Studies

Part-time instructor positions in the Bachelor of Professional Studies program at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus. Instructors teach undergraduate-level courses online in an asynchronous format. Course assignments vary each semester based on curricular need, student enrollment, and funding availability. This position is part of a collective bargaining agreement and is a single-term appointment, renewable based on performance and unit needs, not to exceed two continuous semesters. Due to state employment laws, candidates must reside in eligible states (excluding California, Delaware, Idaho, and Minnesota). The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S.

About the Role

• 100% instructional duties with no research or service obligations.
• Teach a subset of courses offered in the Bachelor of Professional Studies program (see program details).
• Position is non-tenure track and not eligible for promotion in rank.

Responsibilities

• Plans, prepares, and presents recorded weekly content lectures (30%).
• Provides timely, meaningful feedback on assignments verbally and via the learning management system (30%).
• Maintains office hours at times convenient for working adult students and responds promptly to student questions (20%).
• Engages with students in a way that demonstrates awareness of and respect for diversity, fostering an inviting learning environment.
• Updates PowerPoints, assignment instructions, and discussion boards in Canvas to support student learning (20%).
• Maintains well-organized, accurate, and easy-to-navigate course content in Canvas.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (Business, Education, Communication Studies, Project Management) or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated record of teaching in an academic setting or professional mentorship, leadership, or training experience.
• Intermediate to advanced technical skills in using online meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom) for participant engagement and adult learning (e.g., breakout rooms, polling).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience creating and managing course content in a learning management system (e.g., Canvas), including structuring modules, grading, and maintaining social presence in asynchronous courses.
• Doctorate in a relevant discipline (Business, Education, Communication Studies, Project Management) or a closely related field.

Pay

$6,500 per 3-credit-hour course per semester.

Part-time, temporary position with variable course assignments each semester. Classes are offered online in an asynchronous format.
