This is a seasonal position within the Parks & Recreation Department. Placement on the Seasonal Pay Scale and associated steps relate directly to position, qualifications, and experience with the City of Pocatello. Employment is contingent on passing a background check.

About the role

Perform manual, skilled, and unskilled labor in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of grounds and facilities at and around City parks/facilities and on or adjacent to public rights-of-way. Perform general construction, maintenance, and repairs to a wide array of City buildings and infrastructure. This position requires applicants to be 15 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general pool cleaning duties at the Ross Park Aquatics Complex as assigned, including:
    • Vacuuming pools
    • Scrubbing pool tiles
    • Hosing off decks
    • Cleaning slide tower
    • Checking skimmers
    • Patching and inflating tubes
    • Picking up trash
    • Performing other light maintenance duties
  • Maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, organizations, and the general public
  • Operate vehicles safely and maintain an acceptable driving record

Requirements

  • 15 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Two to five years of experience may be required
  • Specialized certifications, construction, and/or supervisory experience may be required
  • Working knowledge of construction and landscape techniques
  • Knowledge of general cleaning and janitorial methods
  • Ability to utilize hand and power tools safely

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces
  • Hand/finger dexterity to handle materials and manipulate tools
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Operate job-related equipment and drive a vehicle
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform essential functions and interact with the public

Work Environment

  • Inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions
  • Wet and humid conditions
  • Areas with dust, odors, mist, gases, or other airborne matter
  • Exposure to mechanical hazards
  • Works days, evenings, and weekends as required
