About the role

The St. Cloud Times, a USA Today Co. paper, is seeking a politics/watchdog/crime reporter with a passion for uncovering stories and making a difference.

Responsibilities

• Research, report, and produce compelling content that informs and engages readers.
• Provide thoughtful analysis of complex issues.
• Lead watchdog journalism that drives change.
• Respond to user demand and reader interest with real-time metrics.
• Shape storytelling to meet audience needs and interests tailored to appropriate platforms.
• Contribute to the community’s greater good through impactful journalism.
• Spotlight breaking news and high-interest events with video.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 1-4 years of daily newsroom experience.
• High-level writing, communication, and time management skills.
• Facility with AI and automation, and experience using it to enhance journalism.
• Demonstrated ability to work well on deadline.
• A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Qualifications

• Ability to take both pictures and short videos.
• Comfortable interviewing a diverse group of people.
• Identify, produce, and post stories, photos, and videos quickly and accurately.

Skills

• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Experience with AI and automation.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of video production and editing.
