Policy Analyst II (Hybrid)

About the role

This hybrid position reports to our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office. The Policy Analyst for the Medical Student Section (MSS) is responsible for the policy-related functions of the MSS, guiding Section members through the MSS and AMA policymaking processes, conducting research, and contributing to the development of resources for Section constituents. This role serves as a center of expertise on medical student issues.

Responsibilities

• Policy-making and Subject Matter Expertise
  • Analyzes policy, data, and research literature on medical student-related issues.
  • Serves as a staff resource on medical student issues related to the AMA policymaking process.
  • Researches issues of interest to Section members.
  • In collaboration with the Director, prepares AMA reports, position papers, and correspondence/briefing materials for the Board of Trustees and senior management.
  • Contributes content and expertise to Section communications and develops web content as assigned.
  • Supports research and analysis of manuscripts for publication.
  • Researches and responds to physician and other internal/external stakeholder inquiries on issues of interest to Section members.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to the development of education programming and other resources for Section members.
• Governance and Other Section Activities
  • Supports Section leaders in policy-related aspects of strategic planning and program development.
  • Builds, manages, and sustains professional relationships with Governing Council members and other Section leaders.
  • Supports the work of Section committees and other leadership groups as assigned.
  • Contributes to the planning and execution of Section Governing Council meetings, Annual/Interim meetings, and other Section events.
  • Completes other tasks and projects for the Medical Student Section and other Sections as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, public policy/administration, health policy, public health, or other relevant field required. Master’s degree a plus.
• 1-3 years of experience in health care policy development, along with knowledge of medical student constituencies, preferred.
• Broad-based knowledge of U.S. health policy required.
• Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write a diverse range of material, develop well thought-out policy positions, and edit material prepared by others.
• Polished interpersonal skills, including well-developed relationship building with medical students, physicians, and staff.
• Strong organization and prioritization skills.
• Well-developed project management skills, including the ability to initiate, manage, and execute multiple policy projects in a fast-paced team environment under tight time constraints.
• Travel and extended hours, nights, and weekends as business demands dictate, required.

Pay

The salary range for this exempt position is $74,160 - $98,318. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be determined by factors including business considerations, geographical location, and candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience. Employees are also eligible to participate in an incentive plan.
