Police Sergeant

About the role

Supervises law enforcement and/or other safety and security personnel for an assigned shift and monitors shift activity to ensure actions are in accordance with procedures and applicable laws.

Guides and maintains the operation of law enforcement and security related programs and functions.

Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates the Beat Management program, call responses, and investigations of crime scenes.
• Disseminates information regarding criminal activity, special assignments and safety or security related events to appropriate departmental staff.
• Acts as liaison between the department and the community, providing safety and security information, and initiating and participating in crime prevention presentations.
• Identifies and implements efficiencies in department operations and processes.
• Prepares and distributes various reports; reviews reports written by subordinates for accuracy; and maintains local supervisory files.
• Conducts regular building, uniform and vehicle inspections.
• Participates in periodic training as required.
• Investigates complaints concerning shift personnel.
• Performs Police Officer patrol duties as needed.

Requirements

• Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level.
• Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
• Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
• Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum.
• Requires employees to work various assigned shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends and may be required to remain at their post for an additional shift.
• Additionally, employees are required to work holidays and overtime.
• All staff are "essential personnel" and are required to report to work during inclement weather.

Qualifications

• Requires a valid, active TCOLE (formerly TCLEOSE) license with up-to-date annual TCOLE training.
• Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade.
• Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
• Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.
• Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum.

• Additionally, employees are required to work holidays and overtime.

Schedule
