About the role
The Police Patrol Officer I will safeguard the life, safety, and security of the property across the Regent University and Christian Broadcasting Network through the delivery of a comprehensive and integrated program of safety and law enforcement services in partnership with the community, along with local, state, and federal Public Safety agencies.
Responsibilities
- Provide public safety by maintaining order, enforcing criminal and traffic laws, and ensuring the security of persons and property within the Regent/CBN community.
- Respond promptly to radio calls for service, including 911 emergencies, panic and burglar alarms, medical calls, and other urgent and routine incidents.
- Identify, pursue, apprehend, and arrest suspects or perpetrators of criminal activity, ensuring compliance with constitutional and statutory requirements.
- Render immediate aid as a first responder, including administering first aid to accident victims or persons in medical crisis.
- Conduct proactive vehicle, bicycle, and foot patrols to deter and detect crime, monitor traffic and pedestrian safety, and promote a visible public safety presence.
- Monitor, report, and investigate suspicious activity, safety hazards, and unusual incidents within assigned patrol areas.
- Provide perimeter security, access control, and protective services for designated high-profile facilities, including the Chairman’s residence, Operation Blessing Warehouse, and CBN/Regent executive areas.
- Submit initial complaints, and follow up reports ensuring accurate incident timelines, documented case dispositions, and appropriate victim and witness services in accordance with constitutional and departmental standards.
- Coordinate with internal units and external law enforcement partners; assess threats, develop investigation.
- Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations of criminal incidents, traffic crashes, and campus safety concerns.
- Interview witnesses, victims, and suspects; document statements; and collect and preserve evidence through photography, diagrams, and reports.
- Identify suspects and missing persons based on BOLOs or intelligence disseminated by law enforcement agencies or departmental briefings.
- Direct and conduct trauma-informed interviews and interrogations of victims, witnesses, and suspects; elicit accurate, reliable statements that support case objectives and comply with constitutional safeguards.
- Oversee case development and documentation, including composing affidavits, obtaining judicial authorizations, and preparing prosecution-ready case files, ensuring evidentiary integrity and procedural compliance.
- Manage case file in preparation to testify in judicial proceedings as required.
- Foster positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors through community policing and routine assistance.
- Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies on joint investigations, bordering property concerns, and mutual aid response.
- Act as liaison and escort for Fire, EMS, and outside law enforcement agencies during on-campus operations.
- Monitor and validate campus identification badges, decals, and authorized access to facilities.
- Direct, reroute, and manage traffic flow during emergencies, special events, or service disruptions; issue citations for traffic violations.
- Provide executive and guest services such as security escorts, courier operations, and airport transfers as assigned.
- Afford communications center operations when required, ensuring continuity of dispatch and emergency communications.
- Assist with the identification, referral, and processing of individuals experiencing mental health crises in accordance with Virginia law.
- Serve as essential personnel subject to emergency recall during natural disasters, critical incidents, or campus crises.
- Adhere to occupational safety standards, recognizing potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, hazardous materials, or other environmental risks.
- Provide a courtroom and administrative testimony, articulating investigative findings under oath in a clear, professional manner.
- Coordinate interdepartmental case reviews and threat assessments, submit various reporting but not limited to reports such as the Regent University Behavior Intervention Team of issues arise that warrant concern for the safety of our faculty, staff or students (to include online learners), policies are in place for addressing disruptive, suspicious, or unusual.
- Create a SchoolDude to submit a maintenance request as it relates to general craftsman, electrical, plumbing and HVAC (air condition and heating problems) and pest control, and other campus systems; recommend appropriate investigative and safety responses.
- Collection, packaging, logging, and transport of evidence in accordance with chain-of-custody protocols and department standards.
- Protect and maintain scene integrity and command presence during critical incidents, ensuring proper containment, evidence protection, and tactical coordination with responding personnel.
- Provide support and or control evidence processing and transportation to labs, courts, or the police property room, ensuring documentation accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Deliver daily intelligence and operational briefings to command staff; assess and approve investigative reports for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with departmental objectives.
- Participate in offering subject-matter input for policy development, operational enhancements, and long-range departmental goals.
- Acts with delegated authority to enforce mandated directives, exercising sound judgment and unwavering confidentiality in high-stakes matters; leverages exceptional decision-making and critical thinking to uphold the intent and strategic direction of executive leadership.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required. An associate degree or a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Qualified in the use of firearms, shotgun, OC, Taser and tactical rifle as required.
- Completed CPR and First Aid Training Certification.
- Ability to attain VCIN (Virginia Criminal Information Network), Central Station, LlnX (Law Enforcement Information Exchange) certification.
- Ability to become certified in Crisis Intervention Training (CIT).
- Ability to become certified in NIMS (National Incident Management System) level 100, 200.
- Valid driver's license, good driving record preferred.
- Other certification of the trade, and skills.
- Candidates must have: (preferred) Proficient in administrative technology, to include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is preferred.
- Physical and Legal Readiness, physically, emotionally, and mentally fit for duty, able to pass all mandated fitness, psychological, and medical standards annually or as required.

- Criminal History: Conviction, guilty plea or no contest plea of any felony. Conviction, guilty plea, or no contest plea of any misdemeanor sex offense, including but not limited to sexual battery under Virginia Code 18.2-67.4 or consensual sexual intercourse with a minor 15 or older under clause (ii) of Virginia Code18.2-371 or any crime requiring registration in the Virginia Sex Offender Registry. Conviction, guilty plea, or no contest plea of domestic assault under Virginia Code18.2-57.2 or any offense that would be domestic assault under the laws of another state or the United States. Conviction, guilty plea, or no contest plea of any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including but not limited to petit larceny under Virginia Code18.2-96 or any offense involving moral turpitude that would be a misdemeanor if committed in the Commonwealth.
