About the role
Carnegie Mellon University's Police Department (UPD) seeks to enhance campus safety through proactive policing and security services. The department aims to foster a collaborative environment where students, faculty, and staff feel safe and secure.
Responsibilities
- Conduct general police, security, and watchman-style foot and mobile patrols of Carnegie Mellon University properties.
- Work flexible schedules, including mandatory overtime and continuation of regular tours of duty.
- Protect life and property, and maintain public peace.
- Enforce federal, state, and local laws, as well as university policies.
- Investigate suspicious activities, persons, and unsafe conditions.
- Provide assistance to security guards and traffic monitors.
- Offer general information to university personnel and visitors.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- A High School Diploma or GED, with a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Previous security or police training is preferred.
- Extensive law enforcement background investigation, including credit check, criminal history, driving record, physical examination, drug/alcohol screening, and psychological evaluation.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and PA Act 120 certification at time of hire.
- PA Child Protection Clearance (Act 153).
