Police Officer Trainee (Non-Sworn)
About the role
The City of Tracy is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join its Police Officer Trainee program. The successful candidate will undergo a rigorous training process culminating in Basic P.O.S.T. certification.
Responsibilities
- Learns and applies knowledge of the City of Tracy Police Department's organization, rules, and regulations.
- Learns principles and techniques of patrol procedures, community service, crime prevention, and public relations.
- Learns and applies knowledge of enforcement and procedural aspects of criminal law, arrest and control techniques, crowd control, and the enforcement of those laws.
- Learns and practices physical fitness and defense techniques programs.
- Learns and practices first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 20 1/2 years of age at the time of application.
- Not currently enrolled in a police academy, nor a graduate from a police academy.
- Passing score of 48 or higher on the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) written s dated within the last six (6) months from the date of the application submission.
- Passing score of 320 or higher on the Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) Physical Agility Test dated within the last six (6) months from the date of application submission.
Qualifications
Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment. Must be enrolled in a California P.O.S.T. approved Basic academy at the time of appointment.

- Knowledge of law enforcement agencies and principles.
- Ability to learn and apply police terminology and law enforcement codes.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow-up on assignments.
- Ability to use computers and software programs to perform various work tasks.
- Ability to make quick and sound decisions based on specific scenarios.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the community.

Schedule
Positions are flexible and may work varying shifts such as 4/10 or 4/11, and may work on weekends, holidays, standby, call back, and overtime.
