About the role
The City of Clovis offers positions for Police Officer Recruit and Police Officer Lateral classes. These positions may be eligible for a $10,000 bonus incentive.
Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas by car, foot, or motorcycle
- Respond to calls for the protection of life and property
- Conduct initial and follow-up investigations
- Work closely with the community and other City departments
- Communicate with merchants and educate citizens about laws and rights
- Perform public outreach and support community policing
- Organize and participate in community events
- Control and direct traffic when necessary
- Conduct traffic stops and issue citations
- Provide first aid in emergency situations
- Investigate suspicious circumstances and take custody of lost and found property
- Take custody of arrestees and assist in their care
- Transport arrestees and provide information and directions to the public
- Operate and maintain police equipment
- Attend briefings and read briefing materials
- Submit complete written reports of assigned cases
- Participate in training courses and programs
- Operate City vehicles
- Provide ethical leadership and uphold ethical standards
Requirements
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record
- Possession of a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Regular Basic Course Police Academy Certificate completed within the last three (3) years, or documentation from a certified POST California Police Academy of acceptance or enrollment to graduate with a Regular Basic Course Certificate within twelve (12) months from the documentation date
- Two (2) years experience as a sworn law enforcement officer with a Basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certificate
Qualifications
- POLICE OFFICER RECRUIT: High school diploma or equivalent; No prior police officer experience required
- POLICE OFFICER LATERAL: Valid California Driver's License and a good driving record; Basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certificate; Two (2) years experience as a sworn law enforcement officer
Skills
- Physical fitness: Sufficient to perform tasks requiring strength and stamina
- Strength: Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Vision: Corrected to 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other eye; constant use of overall vision
- Hearing/Speech: Sufficient verbal communication to project a voice that can be heard in loud environments; hear and distinguish various sounds including over the telephone and radio
- Dexterity: Grasp, push, pull, and fine manipulation to use a computer, operate a motor vehicle, and police services equipment

Pay
- POLICE OFFICER RECRUIT: $42.39 - $51.53 hourly; $88,176.00 - $107,172.00 monthly; $1,058,112.00 - $1,286,640.00 annually
- POLICE OFFICER LATERAL: $50.89 - $61.86 hourly; $8,821.00 - $10,722.00 monthly; $1,058,520.00 - $1,286,640.00 annually
Schedule
Rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays; mandatory overtime; and work from site to site.
