About the role
This position is eligible for relocation assistance and a 4K signing bonus. Annual salary (In Academy) will reflect $77,146.98. Upon graduation, annual salary will reflect $81,004.33.
Responsibilities
- Patrol designated areas, enforce state laws and City ordinances, respond to emergency situations, educate the public regarding safety and security, and perform administrative duties.
- Handle hazardous materials incidents by contacting the reporting person and witnesses, and determining the nature of the call and action to be taken.
- Follow up on calls by locating suspects, victims, and witnesses, processing and booking suspects, completing report of the incident, submitting report to prosecutor, and appearing in court.
- Educate the community by teaching classes at schools, conducting block watch meetings, making public presentations, and answering inquiries regarding legal and safety issues.
- Propose, write, and review departmental policy, complete statistical reports, train officers, and participate in department/City process improvement teams.
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age by graduation of the academy; a citizen of the United States; have a valid Driver's License; and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Pass required tests outlined and a thorough background examination which includes a polygraph, psychological examination, medical examination, and drug screening.

- Ability to perform algebra and general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Ability to write general correspondence, letters, citations, and police reports.
- Ability to regulate caseloads and course schedules.
- Ability to prepare documents and do research to justify language used in documents for a unit of a department and may recommend budget allocations.
- Ability to make choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures and apply professional judgment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others within the organization and outside the City.
- Ability to maintain a clean and pressed uniform as well as high standard of personal hygiene.
- Ability to operate patrol vehicles in a safe, efficient manner.
