Police Officer - Nights
About the role
Advocate Health is seeking a full-time, Benefits Eligible Police Officer to join our team. This position is located at the Navicent Non Enterprise Corporate - Public Safety Department.
Responsibilities
- Patrols assigned jurisdiction and observes for unsafe, unsecure, or illegal activity.
- Accomplishes and documents assigned patrols in accordance with established procedure and time frames.
- Ensures that assigned activities occur in accordance with established procedure and time frames.
- Responds to calls for assistance.
- Completes uniform incident reports as appropriate and in compliance with established procedures.
- Intervenes appropriately and effectively when encountering unruly, abusive, combative, threatening, or armed persons.
- Communicates in a calm, factual, objective, and courteous manner with all persons.
- Coordinates and communicates with community police agencies as appropriate.
- Documents work activities and incidents.
- Investigates criminal activity within corporate jurisdiction in accordance with established policy and procedure.
- Demonstrates capability of communicating and demonstrating all skills required for the position through periodic skills assessments.
- Maintains all training and competency as required to maintain Georgia law enforcement general certification.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Previous security, military, law enforcement experience or related field preferred.
- Must complete training from Atrium Health within 90 days of hire, including but not limited to: Non-Violent Crisis Intervention/De-escalation, defensive tactics, GPSTC (24.0 Hours), CPI/Restraint Training, and P.O.S.T. certification.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly, in both oral and written form.
- Must successfully pass background investigation and drug screen prior to employment.
- Must complete a psychological evaluation as required by the job.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Previous security, military, law enforcement experience or related field preferred.
- Minimum of four years of employment as a police officer.
- Proven performance under stressful situations.
- Ability to respond to all acts of violence in the Emergency Center, handle patient valuables, conduct investigations, and respond to security alarms.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, criminal justice system, departmental rules and regulations, law enforcement standards, GCIC rules, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Skills in the operation of computers and job-related software programs, and ability to develop policies and procedures.
- Ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports, obtain information through interviews, and thoroughly investigate violations of departmental policy and state laws.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Spending majority of time standing or walking with a reasonable amount of bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. May have to run or exert intense physical effort in moving or restraining others. Must have close and intermediate visual acuity. Must be able to hear and verbally communicate with others. Exposed to all-weather elements.
Preferred Job Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Completion of approved curriculum in basic law enforcement required.
- Completion of BLS and CPI within the first 30 days of employment required.
- Valid State driver's license required.
- Certificate in Law Enforcement.
- Two years of experience in a job requiring public interaction and physical activity required.
- Proven comparable patrol experience preferred.
