Responsibilities
- Perform patrol assignments and duties as a regular patrol officer.
- Handle emergencies and make decisions independently.
- Investigate criminal cases and analyze evidence.
- Engage in community policing initiatives and crime prevention.
- Train new officers and assist in specialized units.
- Work alternating weekends and 12-hour shifts.
Requirements
- United States citizenship or lawful permanent resident.
- At least 21 years old by certification date.
- High school graduate with an Associate degree in Law Enforcement preferred.
- Satisfactory medical exam and drug screen.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- No significant or serious moving violations on driving record.
- Clear personal record with no crimes or convictions involving moral character.
- Pass oral, psychological, and polygraph tests.
- Basic Law Enforcement School Certificate from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
Lateral Officer Minimum Qualifications
- Must have been employed as a full-time law enforcement officer for at least one year within the last 24 months.
- Successfully completed probation and hold current basic certification from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
- Out-of-state candidates must pass the WSCJTC equivalency examination.
- Complete field training program.

Pay
The salary for 2026 includes a 2.7% cost of living adjustment (COLA).
Schedule
Patrol officers work alternating weekends and 12-hour shifts, typically days or nights within a 28-day cycle.
Additional Information
To ensure candidates embody the department's core values, a comprehensive background and employment investigation is conducted. This includes a PHS, polygraph, psychological evaluation, and review of various personal and professional records.
Background Investigation
Applicants must complete the supplemental questionnaire and provide supporting documents for the background investigation.
