About the role
The City of Bonney Lake is continuously accepting applications for a Police Officer position. The department is seeking candidates with at least two years of municipal, county, or state law enforcement experience.
Responsibilities
- Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws and policies.
- Patrols the city to enforce laws, prevent crime, and provide public protection.
- Responds to calls for service and incidents requiring police attention.
- Processes complaints, arrests offenders, conducts investigations, and collects evidence.
- Provides assistance in resolving criminal, non-criminal, and civil issues.
- Assists with crime prevention initiatives and traffic control.
- Testifies in court proceedings and prepares for court testimony.
- Enforces applicable laws and uses force as necessary.
- Reports hazardous conditions and equipment problems to superiors.
- Trains new members of the department, reserves officers, temporary employees, or volunteers.
Requirements
- Graduation from a standard high school, vocational school, or equivalency.
- Currently employed as a Peace Officer with at least two years of experience.
- Successful completion of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center Officer Academy or equivalent.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
- Good physical condition.
- Ability to pass entrance examination, physical fitness, and cognitive tests.
- Pass stringent personal background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, and medical physical, including a drug-screening test.
Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of computers and standard office software.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws relating to law enforcement.
- Knowledge of modern police methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of laws of arrest, search and seizure.
- Knowledge of principles of crime and accident investigation.
- Knowledge of basic techniques for crime prevention and criminal investigations.
- Knowledge of identification and preservation of evidence.
- Knowledge of organization and planning.
- Knowledge of geography and street locations.
- Knowledge of first aid principles and applicable procedures.

- Operates police vehicle and other police equipment in all situations.
