Police Officer I

This position is a Commonwealth of VA certified Law Enforcement Officer responsible for patrolling properties owned or controlled by Liberty University and Thomas Road Baptist Church.

Responsibilities

• Enforce all federal, state, and local laws as well as Liberty University rules of conduct.
• Ensure the safety and security of the Liberty University community.
• Respond to calls for service and perform police functions as necessary.
• Use tact, respect, and self-control when dealing with suspects, witnesses, victims, and involved parties.
• Remain current with emerging technologies, processes, and industry benchmarks.
• Interview suspects, witnesses, victims, and involved parties; obtain and serve warrants; make arrests; issue criminal summonses; and testify in court.
• Assist with special events, crowd control, traffic control, and VIP security.
• Attend annual training and maintain all certifications.
• Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering Liberty University’s mission.
• Perform other functions and responsibilities as assigned by LUPD Senior Command.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Current first aid and CPR certifications required.
• Experience in law enforcement, military, or security is beneficial.
• Successfully complete a hiring process including application, background check, physical agility test, oral review board, interview with the chief of police, psychological evaluation, doctor’s physical, and drug testing.
• Virginia Law Enforcement Basic Certification required within 1 year of employment.
• No convictions for a felony or crime of moral turpitude.
• Must pass a drug test upon hire and periodic random drug tests thereafter.
• Excellent written, verbal, and problem-solving skills.
• Maintain a calm demeanor when dealing with the public.

Pay

$23.00 - $31.25 per hour. Compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, education, skills, certifications, University needs, and external market conditions.
