General Description

Duties may include planning, coordinating, and reviewing the work of subordinate technical employees and consulting engineers engaged in the administration of roadway, bridge, drainage, and pavement assessment projects.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages, coordinates, and provides technical review of engineering design consultant’s design, plans, and specifications for construction projects and prepares review comments.
  • Conducts specialized engineering analysis of complex stormwater management systems and/or transportation network systems.
  • Assists in the preparation and obtaining of all required regulatory agency permits.
  • Manages and supervises the construction and inspection of roadway, bridge, drainage, and pavement assessment projects.
  • Develops and updates budgetary estimates for the Transportation Capital Improvements Program and/or Stormwater Management Program.
  • Affords technical assistance to in-house construction and maintenance crews and other departments.
  • Affords technical assistance to citizen groups when requested.
  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering.
  • Knowledge of modern engineering procedures and techniques as they apply to public works, drainage, and utilities.
  • Knowledge of modern developments, current literature and sources of information in the area of public works, drainage, and utilities engineering.
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of engineers, contractors, technicians, and clerical personnel.
  • Ability to give technical and professional review to a wide variety and large volume of engineering plans, specifications, and related documents.
  • Ability to present clear and concise reports, orally and in writing.

Minimum Requirements

  • PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills.
  • EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Five years of experience in the field of civil engineering in roads, bridges, or drainage projects, including two years as a project manager or engineer. Experience working with FDOT standards, specifications, and indexes preferred. A comparable amount of directly related experience may be substituted for the minimum educational requirements.
  • LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida. Applicants that are not registered as a Professional Engineer may apply, but would be considered for a Technical Specialist III position at $50,489 - $53,013 Annually (D.O.Q.). If hired, must have the ability to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida within one year from the date of hire. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
