Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • Associate’s degree and one to two years’ related experience required
  • Certification by Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council within probationary period required
  • Physical examination, written examination, psychological evaluation, and background investigation required pursuant to Rule 32 of Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain, and driver’s check required
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people
  • Physically restrain a suspect
  • Run up/down several flights of stairs and up to 100 yards
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Walk for several hours while on patrol
  • Drive emergency response vehicle
  • Ability to hear radio and telephone communications at both high and low decibels
  • Radio and telephone communications require clear diction without impediments
  • Good vision needed
