About the role
The Middleton Police Department seeks motivated team-oriented candidates for a challenging yet rewarding career in law enforcement. No prior experience is necessary, and lateral transfer opportunities are available for certified law enforcement officers.
Responsibilities
- Enforce laws and ordinances, investigate crimes, and protect life, property, and public order.
- Perform various patrol functions, including working different shifts, conducting searches, and responding to emergencies.
- Communicate effectively with the public and handle complex situations with professionalism and integrity.
- Operate a variety of equipment and vehicles, and respond to medical emergencies.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with evolving law enforcement practices.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Associate's Degree preferred, Bachelor's Degree or greater in Criminal Justice or related field highly preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
- Must be legally able to possess a firearm.
- Must have the ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of law, ordinances, and departmental policies.
- Skills in standard police field procedures, including firearm operation and communication.
- Ability to operate department and personal equipment safely and effectively.
- Medical and physical fitness to perform job duties.
Skills
- Effective communication in person, over radios, and in writing.
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and under stress.
Benefits
Full-time employees are eligible for participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) and other benefits are dependent on the status to which applicants are hired.
Pay
Salaried, Non-Exempt
Schedule
75 hours per pay period, rotating 2 days on; 2 off; 5 on; 5 off. Every other weekend off.
