Police Officer
About the role
The City of Oakdale is seeking entry-level and lateral police officer positions. Lateral candidates receive commensurate pay based on experience, along with a front-loaded Paid Time Off (PTO) system and an accelerated Field Training Officer (FTO) process.
Responsibilities
- Respond to calls for service
- Handle citizen complaints and problem-solving
- Make custodial arrests and issue summonses
- Investigate reports of crime, interview victims, suspects, and others involved, collect evidence, and package cases for prosecution
- Complete paperwork, reports, and case management
- Conduct traffic enforcement and issue citations
- Patrol city streets, neighborhoods, businesses, parks, and conduct traffic enforcement
- Knowledge of city geography
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Education: Associate degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice
- Experience: One (1) year experience in Law Enforcement
- Trainings, Certificates, and Licenses: Minnesota Police Officers license, Valid Drivers License, Use of force training, BCA certification
Qualifications
- Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice, Two (2) years law enforcement field experience, BCA certification

- Knowledge of state and local laws
- Ability to drive and operate emergency vehicles
- Ability to handle volatile persons, defend self and others, and testify
- Ability to work out on duty and emphasize officer wellness

Pay
Competitive pay: LELS Patrol Union pay scale for 2026 for Police Officer is $93,545 - $116,930. Candidates with more than 10 years of experience are eligible for the Senior Officer pay range: $98,222 - $122,777.
Schedule
Patrol Division works a wellness concept schedule. In addition to generous PTO and benefits packages, the city will pay you up to 78 hours wellness hours in lieu of owing time. The patrol schedule is an 11-hour shift (5/5, 2/2) with every other weekend off. Contracted mental health and wellness support is available.
